December 12th- O Come, O Come Emmanuel (Verses 3 and 4)

O Come, O Come Emmanuel

Oh, come, our Wisdom from on high,
Who ordered all things mightily;
To us the path of knowledge show,
and teach us in her ways to go.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to you, O Israel!

Oh, come, Desire of nations, bind
In one the hearts of all mankind;
Oh, bid our sad divisions cease,
And be yourself our King of Peace.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to you, O Israel!

I’m not very familiar with these last 2 verses but they are packed with truth.  Jesus, according to 1 Corinthians 1:30, became to us wisdom from God;
30 But by His doing you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption, 31 so that, just as it is written, “Let him who boasts, boast in the Lord.”

Wisdom can be defined as; knowledge applied.  In other words, Jesus did not come to simply ransom the captives and save us from death’s dark shadow (which would have been incredibly enough) but He also purchased us in order to place us in a wisdom based, amazing masterpiece plan. This master plan spans history, time, race, gender and so much more.  Jesus ransomed us and put us in His Body so that as our King of Peace filled with wisdom, He can rule and reign in us and through us. We are equal yet different members of One Body.  Paul put it this way in Romans 12:3-5;
3”For through the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has allotted to each a measure of faith. 4 For just as we have many members in one body and all the members do not have the same function, 5 so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.

He is the Desire of the Nations binding hearts together with Himself and for Himself….the Body of Christ has a work to do- to love one another, so that the world will know who He is.  So Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel!  He has come!
