Luke 2:6-7
6 While they were there, the days were completed for her to give birth. 7 And she gave birth to her firstborn son; and she wrapped Him in cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
Today and tomorrow we are going to look at just these 2 verses…from 2 different perspectives- To Earth and From Heaven. Jesus has come to earth….in a very normal, natural, lowly, poor yet very supernatural way. As the census drew Joseph and Mary to Bethlehem, at the right time and to the right place, the “days were completed for her to give birth.” Galatians 4:4 says, “But when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law”. Jesus has come to earth.
God wrapped in human flesh…small, vulnerable, and completely helpless. He is loved, cared for and provided humble things….there was no room for any of them in the inn. Isolated yet surrounded. Intimidated yet prepared. Jesus has come to earth as a baby, born of a woman and born under the Law…in order to accomplish everything needed to offer salvation by grace and faith.
Thinking about the birth process, Mary and Joseph and this helpless completely dependent Jesus, causes me to marvel at the trust of the Father. The Father had to trust Himself in sending Jesus as a newborn baby into a harsh sin-filled world and into the care of fallen people. All of this required faith and trust….but of course His faith was always appropriately placed, God only trusted Himself-at all times and in all circumstances. I find this simply amazing and actually extremely gracious. Even the Father exercised faith in Himself, so there is truly nothing that God has ever asked of us that He has not already done and provided for us. Just thinkin…
