Today, we are thinking about God coming from Heaven. The Word becoming flesh…literally confined to dwell in flesh. The incarnation and deity of Christ- Jesus, fully God and fully man.
John 1:1, 14
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God…14 And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.”
Luke 2:6-7
6 While they were there, the days were completed for her to give birth. 7 And she gave birth to her firstborn son; and she wrapped Him in cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn."
God came. Immanuel- God with us. A thought that I am overwhelmed by is the importance of understanding the reason that God came from heaven. God- Holy and completely untainted and untouched by sin-came from heaven.
John 3:16-17
16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him."
This is such a time of grace, God did not come to judge the world….had He, the moment that Jesus would have come forth from Mary’s womb…the earth and all of mankind would have been completely destroyed. Jesus is God. God is holy. Holiness and sin do not mix.
If God simply came….the world would have been annihilated. Poof- gone. Unless….by grace God did not come to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him, Jesus. God loved the world….enough to make a way, through a completely Holy God-Jesus Who would become sin and pay the price for sin so that we might have the free offer of eternal life through Him.
John 14:6
“Jesus *said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.”
